Miami-Dade prosecutor charged with hit-and-run

Some people may believe that because they hold a position of power in Miami, they can get away with anything. This is just not the case, and a recent arrest of a Miami-Dade prosecutor proves that no one is above the law.

The 29-year-old prosecutor is currently facing threats to her employment because of a car accident that she caused recently. The accident occurred when the woman attempted to change lanes as she traveled along a Florida highway. Evidently she did not see the vehicle next to her and sideswiped it while she was moving over.

Growing number of boating accidents cause for concern in Florida

With the longest coastline of any state, in addition to its lakes and rivers, Florida is known for its boater-friendly atmosphere. People come from all over to take advantage of our state’ gorgeous weather and water. Many Floridians are boaters; a survey by the U.S. Coast Guard in 2011 revealed the number of active boating households in the state to be in the millions.

Unfortunately, with the popularity of boating, also comes boating accidents. These accidents are the result of several factors including operating the watercraft under the influence of drugs or alcohol, using excessive speeds and just plain carelessness. When drivers are irresponsible, a fun, relaxing day on the water can turn into a nightmare.

Many people do not realize that when they get behind the wheel of a car, they are assuming a lot of responsibility. If a driver operates the car in a careless manner and ends up causing the death of another motorist in Florida, he or she may be charged with vehicular homicide. This is a serious charge than can constitute either a first degree or second degree felony with penalties that include jail time and fines.

One man may be facing these consequences after causing a fatal accident last month. The man was taken to the hospital after breaking both legs in the crash. After he received treatment, he was slated to be transported to the Miami-Dade County Jail where he will be charged with driving with a suspended license and vehicular homicide.

Speeding pickup truck collides with car killing 3, injuring 1

You may be the safest driver in Miami and think that you are immune from being involved in a car accident. Maybe you obey ever traffic light, always check your blind spot and never go a mile over the speed limit. All of these measures are important and can certainly help you to stay safe, but as long as there are other drivers on the road, you are never going to be 100 percent safe. This is why it is important to take safety measures like wearing your seatbelt and driving defensively.

Passengers in a car that by all accounts were doing their part to obey the laws of the road were involved in a fatal car accident recently. Although all four of the car’s occupants were wearing their seatbelts, one man and two women died on the scene, and one man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The car’s occupants consisted of one married couple and a common-law married couple.

3 sent to hospital after sedan collides with bus near Miami

As a passenger on a Miami bus, you may feel pretty invincible. After all, there aren’t too many other vehicles on the road that are the same size or bigger than a bus. But even smaller cars can cause big problems when they hit the bus just right. Because passengers on a bus usually do not wear seat belts, a motor vehicle accident can result in even more injuries than what you might expect.

A transit bus driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital after a sedan collided with the bus near Miami recently. They were able to go home after they were treated for injuries that were non-life threatening.

Man who caused death of 2 motorcyclists sentenced to 30 years

Despite numerous campaigns and efforts to promote motorcycle safety in the Miami area, there are still accidents. The cause of these collisions run the gamut from operating motor vehicles while impaired to just not paying attention to other motorists. Often times, drivers may not take the time to scan the roadway and make sure no one is coming before they proceed onto the roadway.

This seems to be the cause of a motorcycle accident that involved a pick-up truck in Florida. The two people riding on the motorcycle were killed when the driver of the pick-up truck failed to yield the right-of-way and turned his vehicle in front of them. Evidently the 40-year-old motorcyclist did not have time to stop and collided with the truck, ejecting both him and his 44-year-old wife from the bike. They both died on the scene.

Family of bicyclist sues truck driver who struck and killed her

A bicyclist has just as right as anyone else to be on the streets of Miami. But for some cyclists, enjoying our beautiful weather and atmosphere may come at a high risk due to the negligence of motorists on the road.

Sadly, this was the case for one 48-year-old cyclist who was struck and killed by a semi-truck in South Florida last fall. Although there were no eye-witnesses on the scene when the fatal accident occurred, evidence seems to suggest that the woman was hit as she was riding along the side of the road by a tractor trailer. The truck proceeded on its way, leaving the woman’s crushed body to be found by passers-by.

Tractor trailer loses load, causes damage to car in Miami

Imagine sitting at a traffic light, waiting for the green signal when out of seemingly nowhere a boat engine crashes onto the hood and windshield of your car, pinning you inside. Sound like a car accident out of a fiction book?

This crazy scenario actually happened recently in Miami on Biscayne Boulevard, except for instead of one boat engine, it was two. Although it may have appeared to the driver that they fell from the sky, they actually were pushed off the back of a tractor trailer when the truck went under an overpass. The boat engines were too tall to fit through and caught the top of the underpass when the truck attempted to go under.

Driver runs red light, kills entire carload of people

Although there are drivers who feel that certain traffic laws are too restrictive, those laws are put in place in order to protect everyone on the road. When one driver chooses to disobey those laws, serious, even fatal car accidents can occur.

This was the case for one driver who decided to disregard a traffic signal recently. Even though he had a red light, he proceeded through the intersection after exiting the freeway about 70 miles south of Miami. It is not known how fast he was going, but since he was coming from the freeway, his car could have been going at quite a good pace. In fact, the impact of the collision seems to attest to that.

Man acquitted of manslaughter charges related to boating accident

When a family experiences the unexpected and sudden death of a loved one through an accident in Miami, they can go through a myriad of emotions in a short period of time. They are often left with many questions about how it could have happened and who was responsible for the accident.

This was no doubt the case for one family who lost their love one in a boating accident last summer. The man was riding in a boat with three others when it crashed into a breakwater. The impact sent him overboard. His body was found 12 hours later.
