The term "accident" seems to fall short in describing many auto collisions that leave victims with devastating injuries. Accident almost implies that the incident could not have been predicted, avoided or that it was merely a set of unfortunate circumstances culminating together. Negligence may be a lower standard than an intentional act, but it is still the result of the careless or even reckless actions of another that could have been prevented with a little more care.
The actions of one driver in a recent auto-pedestrian collision in Miramar go beyond the realms of reckless behavior and even past the lines of simple humanity. The collision occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 9 and resulted in the death of an innocent 6-year-old boy just beginning his journey in life. The worst part is that the death of the boy was not what shocked the conscious of witnesses the most, it was the driver's actions after striking the boy.
The stepfather of the 6-year-old boy watched it all happen. The stepfather's hands had been full of an infant child as he and the boy walked across the street after leaving McDonalds. As they crossed the road, a car came careening across their path, striking the young child. Witnesses then watch the driver try to "shake" the child from the car.
"This person continued to move while the child was on the hood of the vehicle," said a Miramar Police spokeswoman. "The child falls off the vehicle, and they ran the child over." Then, the vehicle sped off. Police continue to search for the driver of the white sedan.
